Volgens mij zijn de meeste van deze whiskies zo duur doordat de fles zo chique is...

Ik weet niet hoe representatief deze collectie van vijftien is maar The Dalmore komt er in elk geval als leider uit met vijf stuks ten bedrage van $ 150.576.

Het kan natuurlijk ook een kwestie van marketing zijn en dat ze zijn oververtegenwoordigd

A bottle of 50-year-old Macallan sold for a record £12,350 at the world’s biggest whisky auction in Glasgow yesterday. The rare dram, a bottling of three barrels distilled between 1926 and 1928, was one of more than 700 lots in the McTear’s rare and collectible whisky sale.

It went to an American buyer based in New York for the highest price yet paid for a 50-year-old Macallan.

A 50-year-old Glenfiddich, the product of several barrels distilled between 1937 and 1939, sold for £10,600.

Rare whisky to mark Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Drinks giant Diageo is to sell 60 limited edition whisky bottles at £100,000 apiece to mark the
Queen's Diamond Jubilee next year.

The whisky will be produced in Scotland by Diageo-owned John Walker and Sons.

All profits will go to the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (Qest), the charitable arm of the Royal Warrant Holders Association.

They will be bottled on 6 February 2012 - exactly 60 years to the day since the Queen acceded to the throne.

The Diamond Jubilee Blended Scotch Whisky will feature a blend of whiskies distilled in 1952 at various distilleries across Scotland and finished in a cask of English oak from the Queen's Sandringham Estate.

Each will be presented in a lead crystal decanter adorned with a Britannia silver collar that features a half-carat diamond and an individually numbered silver seal.

This will be accompanied by a pair of hand-engraved lead crystal glasses housed in a cabinet incorporating woods from the Queen's Sandringham and Balmoral estates.

Profits from the sale will be used to help Qest "enable traditional craftsmanship to flourish in Britain".

Jim Beveridge, master blender for John Walker and Sons, said: "These are extraordinary grain and malt whiskies that have been maturing slowly since 1952.

Distilled in 1957 and bottled in 2011, this marvel has been lying in wait in the finest oak for over half a century in Bowmore’s legendary No. 1 Vaults, the oldest maturation warehouse in Scotland. With only 12 bottles in existence worldwide, this is the rarest Bowmore and will no doubt become one of the most sought-after and collectible Single Malt Scotch Whiskies in the world.

Bottles No. 1 and No. 2 will be offered at a public auction at esteemed international auction house Bonhams in Edinburgh on Oct 10 and in New York City on Oct 28 with a minimum reserve set at £100,000 per bottle (approx. $155,000). All net proceeds from both saleswill be donated to five Scottish charities.
