Re: Dramming.com NAS vs age statement Blind Tasting

Re: Dramming.com NAS vs age statement Blind Tasting

Re: Dramming.com NAS vs age statement Blind Tasting
Mijn schrijfsels:
NAS – AS Blind tasting
A1A vs. A1B
Winner: A1A (Auchentoshan three wood?)
A1A
Nose: Mild sherry, little bit spirit driven. Fudge, vanilla and shortbread. The toffee is getting more and more prominent. Somewhere deep inside there are some hidden flowers and heather.
Taste: sweet and sour, but also a bitter note in here. Some citrus but also a hint of oak. Apple (green ones).
Body: Medium, a little oily but not much at all
Finish: Medium. The bitterness prevails and makes place for some citrus. A bit of a duffer with a nose like this.
Comments: 78 /100 points. Most for the nose.
A1B
Nose:Oak and malt. Grass notes, seems younger and a little off to me. Some confectionery and bitter-orange marmalade.
Taste: A prominent sweet and sour note. Citrus is here! That's about it.
Body: a little flat. Not much going on here.
Finish: Rather short. The citrus gives it another go. After a minute or so there is a bitter tone in here.
Comments: 76 points. Most for the taste
A2A vs. A2B
Winner: A2A
A2A
Nose: Hint of sherry, glue, marzipan, vanilla and oakwood. Grass. Canned fruit.
Taste: Whisky, don't expect anything special. Hint of vanilla and oak, some citrus. A little more alcohol driven
Body: flat, I assume heavy chill-filtration.
Finish: short, flat some vanilla sweetness and a hint of citrus.
Comments: 75 points. It's drinkable, that's about it.
A2B
Nose: Lightly spirity, citrus, exotic fruitiness. Young trampled leaves. A slight hint of sulpher and peat.
Taste: sweetness all over. Some apples and pears. Strange taste not something I can describe very easily.
Body: flat, I assume heavy chill-filtration.
Finish: Rather short. Some bitter orange note. Hint of peat comes around. Sweetness of the oak. It all dissapears very quickly.
Comments: 73 points. This too is drinkable and that's about it.
A3A vs. A3B
winner: A3A
A3A
Nose: Light fruitiness, pear, sweet winegums. Lemonande (the real stuff with fresh lemons).
Taste: Sweetness of citrus fruit.
Body: medium, most likely chill-filtration.
Finish: Bitter sweet. Gently and handsome.
Comments: 83 points. This is a young but characterful whisky, which is well made, hopefully the price is not to high. The nose is quite good as is the finish.
A3B
Nose: Lighter, than A3A although same characteristics. I smell a faint hint of peat. Develops a hint of sulphate, definitely a off note here. There seems also be a hint of raisins here, so I assume some sherry casks have been used, not much though.
Taste: Light bourbony, bitter-orange, hint of spices. Hint of peat some apples and pears develop later on.
Body: Light. Not much of anything here
Finish: Short. Bitter, hint of peat again. Spirit driven. The apple and the pear come back. It's all gone in aprox 2 minutes if I am being an optimist.
Comments: 72 points. I assume very young whisky has been used and this is a classic example of an overpriced NAS whisky which everyone seems to hate except the marketing department.
A4A vs. A4B
winner: A4A
A4A
Nose: flowers, a clear fresh nose. Camilla, smells like there is some sherry influence, but not much. After a while some vanilla an oak comes in.
Taste: Sweet stuff. Very accessible, toffee and hint of vanilla. Nice and well rounded taste. Very sweet oranges, mandarin.
Body: medium-full. A little oilyness.
Finish: Short. Bitter hint at first, but there comes the sweetness back in!
Comments: Well 80 points. A classic example of what whisky is, this is a good introduction whisky.
A4B
Nose: Some sulphate pops up here too. Hint of peat. Yet these smells do mask most of the experience for me, as I cannot smell much else. Vague hint of citrus.
Taste: Sweet and sour, a damp note, wet cardboard. Some oak if you try well.
Body: flat, will hardly say there is one
Finish: Short and flat. Some candied orange peel comes along but it isn't very much all in all.
Comments: 70 points. This is a whisky with a off note in the nose, and not very tasty all in all.
A5A vs. A5B
Winner: A5A
A5A
Nose: Well how to describe this. Meaty flavor does well I suppose. Some sweet citrus, and some lime in particular. Hint of cinnamon. There is some oak and yeast in the background.
Taste: Sweet and sour, citrus, some vanilla, not very much more
Body: Flat. A little dry.
Finish: Short. Nice and rounded, sweet and a hint of bitterness, yet very nice.
A5B
Nose: Burned bbq meat.... something like that. Wet cardboard, damp cellar. Hint of citrus. Some orange sweets. Chinese sugarsoup, Thats it!
Taste: Sweet and sour too, little spirit driven. Yet a hint more flavour than A. more citrus.
Body: Flat, alcohol driven.
Finish: A bit harsh. Spirit driven, an not really tasty at all. Come citrus that's about it.

Re: Dramming.com NAS vs age statement Blind Tasting
Ik heb geen uitgebreide notities gemaakt, tijdgebrek.
Grotendeels mee eens.

Mijn scores (winnaars dikgedrukt):
Glen Moray 12yo (83)
Glen Moray Port Cask Finish (75)
Dalmore 12yo (80)
Dalmore Valour (78)
Glenlivet 12yo (81)
Glenlivet Founder's Reserve (81)
Cardhu 12yo (79)
Cardhu Amber Rock (82)
Macallan 10yo Fine Oak (81)
Macallan Gold (80)

Oliver's (gefundeerde) mening over mortlachs rare old is niet mis. Wat een trieste miskleun van Diageo.

Re: Dramming.com NAS vs age statement Blind Tasting
)
Bijvoorbeeld
Dalmore sigar malt of 18y

Glenlivit 12 79
Glenlivit Founder 81
