HIGHLAND councillors have given the green light to plans for a new whisky distillery and visitor centre in Lochaber which could create up to 10 new permanent jobs.
Members of Highland Council’s south planning applications committee on Tuesday made a site visit at Glenbeg, Ardnamurchan, before determining the application from Adelphi Distillery Ltd at Shielbridge Hall, Acharacle.
All seven Highland councillors who took part in the determination voted in favour of the development, which was recommended for approval by planning officials.
The ambitious plans at the small hamlet overlooking Loch Sunart had been due to be decided on by the planning committee in Inverness last month, but the application was put on ice after Lochaber members persuaded colleagues to agree to the site visit....
To be called the Ardnamurchan Distillery, it will provide up to 10 new, long term jobs, and support up to 100 local construction jobs - mainly with Lochaber based firm Global Construction Limited.
