Fake whisky test unveiled.
Scientists at Strathclyde University have found a way of testing whiskies and telling the fakes from the real thing by examining ethanol concentration in both undiluted and dried whisky samples.
A further benefit is that it does not involve complex or expensive laboratory-based experiments.
The test involves infrared spectrometry and probes, which contain optical fibres.
The team from the university’s pure and applied science department tested 17 samples and were able to accurately identify each of the eight authentic whiskies from the nine fakes, by measuring the levels of ethanol and colourant in each sample.
David Littlejohn who led the team behind the findings said: “There’s a growing need for methods that can provide simpler and faster identification and we have developed a system which could be adapted for devices to use on site, without the need to return samples to a lab.
“It could be of great benefit to an industry which is hugely important to the economy.”

Wat bedoelen ze met fake whisky??
Kunnen ze op die manier een 15-jarige van een 20-jarige onderscheiden bvb?
Bestaat er uberhaupt wel zoiets als fake whisky?
Als het gemaakt is van graan, water en gist, en drie jaar op vat zit, is het whisky.
Of kunnen ze zo pakweg Bowmore 1968 onderscheiden van Bowmore 1989?

Researchers from the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry have found new ways to compare the content of whisky samples to determine if they are the whisky on the label or an imitation brand.

dan zouden ze dus moeten kunnen onderscheiden of er een Benriach 16 bijvoorbeeld in zit als at op het label staat en geen
Benriach 12...???
of zouden de distillery moeten kunnen herkennen? Lijkt me ook lastig...
Heb het vermoeden dat ze denken te kunnen traceren of het inderdaad een whisky van decenia terug is en niet een recente whisky... Maar goed, wat als een jaren 50 macallan vervangen is met een jaren 50 johnnie walker?
Ben wel benieuwd eigenlijk wat ze nu precies denken te kunnen onderscheiden en hoe.
